Another busy week and I haven’t even picked up my camera! So I poured through the picture files on the computer and had a difficult time picking two out. But, I did it.

Brenna and Luci in my mother-in-law's bedroom. Lulu loved those wood floors....and Brenna, too!

Thursday’s Things: Splashing in those puddles!

This summer has been kind of on the dry side until this past Sunday. Mother Nature decided to dump a summer’s worth of water on us in one fell swoop. It didn’t stop raining until Tuesday morning. The kennels are under water in some spots and the dogs are atrocious right now! The girls had fun Monday splashing through all the water. They were soaked up to their hips in their jeans! But they were happy and hamming it up for the camera!

These were taken at a Match that was held on Mother’s Day in 2009. It was the first time Greta, Brogan and Brand-D (Donna Lee’s bitch) were at any type of dog show. Greta did great, she got a Group 3. The girls had fun, too. It was a cool, blustery day that we finished at grandma’s house in Clifton Park.

Of losing a little kid and big boo-boos

Well, we have lived through the 68th Annual Punkintown Fair. I have decided that a full day of shopping with a kid that had the runs may be more pleasant than subjecting myself to THAT. I should have paid attention to the inner-mommy in me and left with Rowan when Matt arrived, but I didn’t. But on the bright side, I am not subjecting myself to the hair-pulling festivities next year and you can count on that!

We arrived a whole hour early. Just to let you googlers know, the fair opens at 6pm, not 5pm, like I originally thought. Who knew my blog would be the go-to source for the Punkintown Fair, but oh well! I might as well be known for something! So that was a joy trying to entertain kids across the street from all of the rides. Not.

Brenna was in full Fair mode this year. She is getting over her fears of roller coasters quite quickly. She’s had also decided that she didn’t need her mom to tell her that she couldn’t go on a certain ride without an adult and did anyway. We lost her for the longest five minutes of my life. I thought my mom was going to have a coronary. She was all running around like The Little Chicken saying the sky was going to fall. I mean, the fair is not that big people! My back yard is a hell of a lot bigger than that! Matt found her on said ride, riding it alone. So much for those height rules put in place for some unknown reason!

Rowan was not a happy camper because the only thing she really could do was eat or go on the bouncy bounce. She did have fun bouncing around and on top of other kids. She ate her fair share of fried dough and she ate my fair share also. She really wanted to go on the big slide, so I let her go with her sister and her 13 year old cousin. Everything was going great until the very end when her big head toppled over and she smashed her face on the slide resulting in a gash under her right eye. So I ran her over to the EMT’s and we decided it didn’t need stitches. Thank goodness! I can’t imaging THAT trip to the ER! She’s a real trooper and her eye is pretty swollen and a little black. Yeah, that’ll be a FUN shopping trip next weekend with people staring at me!

Thursday’s Things: The Best of the ‘berry Edition

Since I have not gotten the camera out in a long, long time, this week’s photos are coming from the Blackberry. I love that the ‘berry has a camera, but it’s a sucky little camera. I don’t know what the resolution is exactly, but the word “crappy” sums it up nicely! No worries, the Canon will be coming out for Saturday’ Punkintown Fair.

Thursday’s Things

I refer to my daughter’s as Thing One and Thing Two. Just like in the “Cat in the Hat”, they are a whirlwind in my house! Too bad I don’t have a box to put them in when Mom is coming home! That would be too easy, but we have threatened to stick them out in the kennel with the “faucet” (Sinatra) and that usually shuts them up for a minute. Yes, just a minute. Brenna is Thing One and Rowan is Thing Two, also known as “bruiser”, amongst other choice names! Every Thursday I will post some pictures of them. They may not be recent, but you can be guaranteed that there will be Things!

Always have your guard up, I mean ALWAYS!

Tonight was my typical Friday night where my shoulders loosen up and just thinking of not having my alarm clock programmed for the next day has me feeling like I’m on cloud nine! I know you know that feeling….being all warm and cozy, baby monitors off….oh, wait, that was a daydream. Let me start over: being all warm and cozy with the sunshine coming through the windows and then a kid yelling, “Mommy, I wanna get up!” and then a 150 pound Saint Bernard decides to hop on the bed and lick your face. Yeah, that’s a typical Saturday morning in my house, no joke! But, a fairly typical night where I’m retrieving a dog from the road because he doesn’t like to walk in water, while I’m trying to get dinner on the table. I really think Sinatra is going senile, but hey, he’s getting old. So, I yell up to Brenna in her room.

“Do you want dippy eggs?” It was breakfast for dinner night tonight. I’m waiting for the response, expecting one that consists of, “I want soup.” or defiance altogether. And she’s just 5.

“Ummm….no, I don’t. But thank you for asking me mommy.”

I stop. I pause. I actually had to take a moment and digest that. I almost went upstairs to see if it was actually her or if she secretly programmed her sister’s Elmo to say that. I smiled and cooked the rest of dinner…err..breakfast.

The guard came down and she asked it.

“Can I get ice cream money on Monday, mommy, please?”

So never, ever, let your guard down! They always want something! If she’s good this weekend, she’ll get money for that stinkin’ ice cream machine they have in her cafeteria!

The explosive vocabulary

Every child reaches a point in their life where the “words” just start coming. And it’s usually overnight. And it’s very quick and the only word I can equate it to is “vomit”. It’s like they vomit words out of their tiny mouths with such force and amplitude that it can give me a migraine instantaneously. I’m glad we have plenty of Motrin in the house.

I, of course, am referring to Rowan, the littlest Dyer, not the youngest (they would be out in the kennel, but they are weighing well over a 100 pounds these days). Her vocabulary is expanding immensely. It at times seems much broader than mine which frequently consists of: “No!”, “Put that back now”, “Stop it!”, and my favorite, “What the….?”.

We were sitting at the dinner table Monday night (I know, everything happens at the dinner table it seems in this house!) and Rowan was trying to eat with her fork. No simple task, mind you, for an almost two year old who would rather stick her head in the food! And for awhile now, she has been referring to the fork as her “hook”. Clever, huh? Didn’t put those two together did you? And then she said it. Not fork. But she said “fuck”. My head spun around and she just grins and holds out her fork and says “fuck”. And this child feeds off every emotion my face holds, so I try not to act too surprised, but what am I suppose to do? So I wheel my head back to Matt, who is almost laughing on the floor. Now that’s just grand. Brenna is now in on the laughter and the floodgates erupt with “f” words strung together in a singsong melody. Guess we can’t go out to eat anymore. WTF?

The Annual Punkintown Fair

In the midst of all the sadness going on here this past week (read the post below this), I forgot to write about this annual tradition that I’m not so sold on. I walked past my camera tonight and it dawned on me that I hadn’t even put the pictures on my computer. I know, I’m a bad mom. At least I admit it.

So last Saturday was a busy day. I knew this going into it, so I wasn’t too happy to begin with. Throw a toddler that had been having explosive poo for four days on top of it and I was just miserable. And to top it off, I had to get up at the buttcrack of dawn on MY DAY OFF! WTF? Now I’m pissed. We had to be in Clifton Park (45 minutes from here) for 8:30 in the morning to drop my truck off to the place where we bought the camper so they could hook up this “state of the art” hitch that weighs more than my dogs, I swear. I tried to see if my mom could take the girls because this was going to be a two hour process. Oh, no, can’t be that easy. She had a hair and pedicure appointment. Go figure. So what are we going to do with the two girls? Take them to McDonald’s and let them burn energy off in the Playland. That actually worked out well, a lot better than Matt had thought. My mom did stop by and she ended up taking Rowan back to her apartment for a nap. We ended up staying with my mom, ate a late lunch, gave Ro a more formal nap and even gave Brenna a bath there. From there, I took Ro home and picked up Matt and we met my mom, my stepfather and Brenna at the Punkintown Fair.

The Bears were back this year, along with the purple swings and the big slide. Brenna was a little whiny, threw a few tantrums. I was starting to wonder why she deserved to be there in the first place. At one point she was hollering so loud for a band aid because she got a scrape on the bouncy bounce on her elbow. I grabbed the first EMT I could find and begged him for a band aid. He went in his ambulance, grabbed one and gave it to me. He asked me if I wanted another one and I quickly shot back, “What, for her mouth?” He just laughed and replied that he didn’t think the band aid would do and he had left his duck tape at home. Now there’s a guy with a sense of humor! I got to eat my “annual” fried dough and it was good. Rowan wasn’t too shot in the fanny over it. All-in-all it was fun. I did go on a few rides with Brenna. She went on most of them by herself this year! She’s finally tall enough!
