About
Who are these crazy people with the St. Bernards?
We are Matt and Amy Dyer. Matt grew up in a family with a Saint named Monk. That is probably the underlying reason why we are in Saints today.
Shortly after we bought our first house, we bought our first Saint, Patsy. We made a common mistake and bought her from a backyard breeder. When we decided to add to our family, we were referred to Donna Lee, proprietor of A Lee Saint Kennels. Donna has become our mentor. We caught the show bug in 2004 and have been showing more and more each year. We finished our first two Champions in November of 2007.
Matt works full-time in Financial Services and Amy works full-time as a CT and MRI Tech for a private office in Albany, NY. In addition to the Saints, we have two beautiful daughters, Brenna and Rowan, born in 2004 and 2007 respectively and a cat we call Pepper.
We chose Brogan as our kennel name for its Gaelic meaning of Strong and Sturdy. We thought this fit the type of dogs we are aiming to produce, and it also works with the Irish names we’ve given our daughters.
Our breeding philosophy is quite simple: We want to produce Saint Bernards that have excellent temperament, sound bodies and exceptional breed type. Temperament is one of the first things we will consider in a mating selection. One of the Saint’s most endearing qualities is its gregarious attitude. We try to produce pups that all have the Saintly temperament through good breeding and proper socialization.
We want our puppies to be healthy and free from any congenital defects. We try to do our homework through researching pedigrees to eliminate as many health concerns as possible before the puppies are even conceived.
We also want our dogs to adhere to the breed standard. We all know Saints are a Head Breed, but we want to place emphasis on the proportionally tall and massive and powerful in every part verses in the standard.
