Who Am I? No, really, I’m what today?

by Amy D on February 7, 2010

Since I just created a Fan Club on Facebook for this blog, I decided to write a post about me.  Lucky you!  Since some of you kinda know me and some have no clue as to what my life has been since High School, I thought I’d let everyone in on it.  So here it goes……

My name is Amy Dyer and I’m going to be 34 years old this year.  I was born in the state of Florida and I have one brother, David, and a step-brother, Bryan.  I grew up in Texas for awhile until we relocated to New York, in Plattsburgh.  That’s way up by the Canadian border, eh?  I graduated from Beekmantown Central School in 1994 (Go Eagles!!).  I met my husband, Matt, when I was 11 years old while working for his parents at their vegetable stand in Beekmantown.  It wasn’t until I was strapped for a prom date that Matt came around.  He was at Plattsburgh State, staying at home, and I think I was his pity project, but love prevailed in the end!  I’m not saying it was or has been total bliss, but we are still together and have been through a lot.  I went to Plattsburgh State as a Spanish major and flunked out my very first semester.  I then went to Clinton Community College for my second semester and did okay.  Then one day, a friend of mine told me she was going into X-ray School at the hospital, and I thought, “Hmmm…..that sounds interesting…” and off I applied and got accepted.  The only reason I was accepted is because I forgot my college transcript!  If they saw that, I would have been kicked to the curb!  So in 1997, I graduated an RT and went down to Hudson Valley Community College for another year of Ultrasound school.  I dropped out half way through because I absolutely hated it.  I had a lease on an apartment in Troy, so I had to stay.  I was working full-time at Albany Medical Center at the time.  In 1998, the ice storm hit Upstate NY and Matt headed down to stay with me (we were engaged at that point and planning our wedding).  He ended up finding a job doing Sunroom Installation with Patio Enclosures and moved down permanently.

So that’s how we came to Albany.  We were married in 1999 in Plattsburgh.  My mom and her husband had moved to South Carolina in 1997, right before I graduated college.  I stayed on at Albany Med doing x-ray, then Angio until 2000.  I then went to St. Peter’s Hospital where I learned CAT Scan.  Matt and I bought our first house in 2001 in Berne, NY.  It’s about 25 miles southwest of Albany in the Helderberg Mountains.  We would go and drive on weekends to figure out where we wanted to live and this was it!  It was like where we use to live up North:  quiet, country and hardly any neighbors.

We moved in May of 2001 and shortly after, we got a dog.  We went to the pound and picked out a nice pit-bull mix that we named Rex.  Well, Rex was a touch effin’ out of his mind!  We had an invisible fence put in for him and he would charge it everyday.  He dug holes like a grave digger and was uncontrollable, to say the least.  I got a good lead on a Saint Bernard, and the day we gave Rex back (we had him almost 9 months) was the day we got our first Saint, Patsy.  She was the cutest puppy in the world!  Long, fluffy hair!  And in November, we met a breeder, Donna Lee, and bought Luci.  We were suppose to show Lu and breed her, but with her UTI problems, we ended up getting her spayed.  So Donna gave us Sinatra.  And he was our first show dog.

Before we got Sinatra, I found out I was pregnant with our first child.  We went ahead and took him anyway, knowing this child was coming.  He was a house dog, like Lu and Pats.  I ended up making Matt finish the kennels outside because he was (and still is) the drooliest faucet I have ever seen!  It’s one thing to be wiping it off the walls, but I draw the line at the ceiling!  He is the very reason why we have kennels.  There is only so much I can deal with!  Brenna was born in September of 2004.  I went to working weekends at St. Pete’s in CAT Scan.  Matt was in sales at this point for Patio Enclosures.

We acquired Polly in 2006, I think?  She became our second show dog, co-owned with Donna.  She finished her Championship in 2007, a week later than Sinatra did.  We also had our second child, Rowan, that year in November.  Rowan was born the first week, Sinatra finished the weekend after, and then Polly.  November 2007 was a great month for us!  At this point, I was working a few per-diem jobs because the weekend thing was getting old.

In 2008, we bred Polly to Marian McShane’s boy, Duncan.  She lost the first litter of 2 and then had 7 puppies in October.  We kept Greta and Brogan.  Greta is our newest show dog.  She is showing great potential, even went out to Oregon for the National last year.

I am now working full-time as a CAT Scan/MRI Tech for Prime Care Physicians in Albany.  Matt is no longer with Patio Enclosures.  He has started his own business in financial education.

And now you know why I ask myself ‘what the hell am I today?” on  a daily basis!  Am I the mom or the dog food girl or the CT tech?  I don’t effin’ know on a daily basis, maybe you can help?

* I apologize if there are typos in here.  I upgraded to Windows 7, and I’m still working out the kinks.  I can’t get my spellcheck button to work properly in WP*  ~Amy
