The Bowling Party

by Amy D on February 16, 2009

You know, I’m not much of a party fan, so when the invitation came from one of Brenna’s friends to attend a bowling party, I was so not looking forward to it. I’ve been working full-time now for a month, and every weekend there is something going on and I just want a weekend to stay home! It’s not much to ask for right? It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen until the first full weekend of March……So anyway, bowling party, right? With the 3-5 year old set…..yeah, right! Matt was not so optimistic and kept saying that Brenna was going to break her arm or foot. I had much higher hopes with the bowling, much lower hopes of pulling her out of there crying. I’ve learned that you can’t set your standards too high because they will always be crushed!

We walked into the bowling alley and what’s the first thing she does? Covers her ears and tells me that it’s too loud. Really? I couldn’t hear you the first time! The only good thing about the music was that it was a good mix of old, new, country and pop. In fact they had “Mickey” playing at one point. I think I was like 5 when that song came out. I know, I know what all of you people who are older than me are thinking, but my daughter will be there someday! You should hear her rendition of The All-American Rejects song, “Gives You Hell”. She’s not bad! We are trying to get settled in at this point. It’s pure chaos and she’s taking her shoes off. The attendant asks me what size shoes she needs. I tell her toddler size seven, and she tells me that don’t have shoes that small. Great! So she puts her sneakers back on. And then we waited forever for the lanes to become available.

So these bowling balls are 6 pounds. I had no idea that they made six pound balls, I thought eight was the lightest. And that girl hiked it up to the lane herself! I was worried a couple of times, but she managed. I don’t know what she bowled, I don’t even think her lane completed a game, but they all had so much fun! It was hilarious when the ball would strike the pins and they would all huddle and hug and high five each other! Oh, if life were like that everyday!

I’m glad I put a belt on her jeans because my pictures would have been littered with crackers!

This has got to be my favorite! The birthday girl is on the left, she just turned five. Brenna will be five in September. The size difference is amazing! But they were so cute just standing there waiting for that ball to strike the pins!

Bowling ball: 6 pounds

Brenna: 34 pounds

Getting that ball down the lane: Exhausting!

Watching the pins fall down: Priceless!

And she told me last night that she’s shy! I don’t believe it for a minute!
