On the way to work this morning Brenna asked me to put the map on. What she means by this is the TomTom. It’s still stashed in my glovebox since the dog show in Hamden, along with lots of gummy fruit bags somewhere in the truck and who knows what else. So I tell her I don’t need it on because I actually know the way to Shelly’s house. So she announces that she will be my map!
“We need to go past the cows, mommy to go to Shelly’s!” I’m going along with this game, ok past the cows, huh? How many times do we pass the cows? Twice, usually, unless the cows at Meadowbrook Dairy are in getting milked, like this morning. Wow, my map is failing me……Then I hear in a very familiar TomTom voice, “Go straight at the end of the road.” I swear to God it sounded just like that damn TomTom!! I turn around to look at her and she’s giggling, “Am I a good Map mommy?’ Yes, very good. Until I hear, “Turn right at the end of the road.” And I almost did. And it was the wrong way, thank God I can’t follow TomTom directions!
But it’s very hard work being the Map. Brenna announced that she was too tired to be my map when we were almost to Shelly’s. So I didn’t hear the words I longed to hear last weekend, “You have reached your destination.” Darn, too bad it wasn’t Aruba……….
