We remember all those mats on your ass….

Yes, Patsy, I’m talking to you.

Today we decided it was time to bathe our house dogs. They are so neglected in this regard, it’s not even funny. You would think that we would actually take the time to give them regular baths, but that just is not the case. It’s our kennel dogs that win in this ring, as they are the “show dogs”.

We started working on Patsy first. She’s a longhair with a very incorrect, wavy coat and mats on her ass, belly, behind her ears and on her chest. She was the worse of the two. So I start combing in the back and very quickly it dawned on me that we were never going to work through the mats with a comb. They were so bunched in there and there were so many of them, and hell, she wasn’t going to be shown, so out came the scissors!! And I hacked and hacked away while Matt is still combing. He quickly gave up and moved to her chest while I was having a hackfest! Do you know how good it actually feels to cut hair? I mean, it would scare me to death to do it on a person, but on a dog….it’s liberating!! It quickly grew into a clipperfest and now we have a Saint that has 2/3 of her tail shaved, her butt shaved and her back legs. She’s going to have to learn to walk backwards now! And as if she doesn’t look stupid enough, Matt takes the scissors and cuts the bottom of her tail hair straight across! She looks awful, that girl, so awful that even I could not take a picture of that! And to think we have to take her in public next Tuesday to the vets! I think I’m going to die!

Then we get Luci up on the grooming table. She’s a shorthair blowing coat in a bad way right now. I was blowing her out and I constantly was turning the dryer to my own face because the hair was just everywhere! People driving by must have thought we were sacrificing one of our dogs because there was just hair everywhere! We did all of the grooming in the front yard because there’s not much sun there so the dogs wouldn’t get overheated. It took us all day to get the two done. It’s exausting. But the dogs are clean….

And Sinatra, the drooly bastard, isn’t getting bathed until next Sunday. The closer to the vet appointment, the better because he is just a slobbering fool! I think I may have to go shopping next Sunday, don’t ya think??
