Rowan had her 6 month appointment on Tuesday and now I know that I need to take the next day off whenever she has shots. The last time she had them, she spiked a high fever and I had to call in sick to work. Thank goodness I didn’t have to work this past Wednesday, because she spiked that same fever again. Poor thing. She is such a happy baby that it’s very hard to see her like that.
I thought I would get it under control early this time, so I gave her a dose of Tylenol before we went. She was pretty good for the actual shots themselves, cried a couple of minutes, pretty much stopped by the time she was back in her carrier. And then we went to Price Chopper to pick up a few things and by that time you would have never known she just had shots. Her fever progressively got higher and by the time her last bottle rolled around, it was 103 degrees. I decided to get out the big guns and dosed her with Motrin. She downed her whole bottle and then promptly projectile vomited all over me, her and the floor. So much for the Motrin (and my clean jammies!). I had Matt bring up the clean laundry that I procrastinated putting away that day and a cold wet washcloth. I put it on her head and she was so content! I bet it felt pretty good to her! Poor thing.
I understand the whole shot thing, I mean they need it to go to school (I’m not the homeschooling type) but why do they cause these high fevers? I wonder how common it really is? Brenna never had fevers like this. Of course Brenna is healthy as a horse and Rowan is most likely going to have asthma like me and allergies like me. She’s had bronchiolitis twice so far, so she’s doomed I tell ya, doomed! That’ll be a great Mother’s Day card in the future: “Thanks Mom for being you and passing down all your problems to me, Love Rowan”.
